Jacobus Johannes (Koos) VENTER (22.3.1814 - 28.1.1889) was in 1884 mede-ondertekenaar van die Bloemfontein-Konvensie, waardeur die Republiek van die Oranje-Vrystaat tot stand gekom het. As lid van die Volksraad, eers vir die wyk distrik Bloemfontein en later Bethulie, het hy waarskynlik die langste diens van enige Vrystaatse Volkslid gelewer, aanenlopend van 1834 tot 1881 (met uitsondering van n kort onderbreking). Hy was ook op 12 Mei 1859 mede-stigter van die Gereformeerde Kerk in die Oranje Vrystaat. Hy het op sy plaas Broekpoort in die distrik Bethulie geboer.
Die graf is in 1982 herstel deur die Bethulie-Bewaringskomitee van die Stigting Simon van der Stel met finansiele steun van die familie Venter.
